Obituary for Alvin Winter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Dad was born on May 18, 1928 to Bert and Emma Winter of Lashburn, Saskatchewan. He lived and helped on the family farm while attending a one-room schoolhouse. After he graduated, he moved to Winnipeg to attend a pre-med class in university. While in Winnipeg, he met our mother at a dance. Before they married, he started a career with NCR. On April 6, 1951, Dad married Eileen Barnett. Together they raised their three children in St. Andrews, MB. This is where, together they built their first house. The family was raised around Dad’s love of hunting, fishing, camping and curling. In 1968, Dad got transferred to Brandon, it is here that the love for skidooing came into play. Our parents loved taking long skidoo trips while at the family cottage. Dad had a few jobs in his life. He worked for NCR for over 25 years, ran Tasty Spot for three years, Link Hardware of Shoal Lake for approximately 5 years, Shur Gro for 19 years and local handy-man his whole life. Dad’s last 3 ½ years were spent in Minnedosa Personal Care after our mother’s passing. Dad was predeceased by our mother, Eileen; his parents Bert and Emma; siblings Ed, Leona and Helena; grandson Dale; and his brothers-in-law. He is survived by his children Greg (Mariam), Ken (Dawn) and Donna (Jack); grandchildren Conrad (Andrea), Jami (Jason), Jodi (Justin), Jim (Naomi) and Krista (Scott); along with ten great grandchildren. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Dad may be made to a charity of your choice.
