HAYNE: Audrey Hayne (nee Lowry). It is with heavy hearts we announce our Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Valleyview Care Centre in her 96th year. Audrey is the cherished mother of Kevin Hayne and Sheryl Hayne-Cavers and adoring grandmother to Kyler and Konnor Cavers. She is also survived by nephews Gerry Hayne (Marie Bremner), Colin and Heather Leake, Kelvin and Jan Leake, Dale Lowry, Glen and Pam Lowry; nieces Karen and Gary Medford, Sharon and Myron Dyrda; and sister-in-law Florence Lowry and her daughters Maelynn MacIssac and Jamie Maclean-Biliski. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Hayne; parents William and Diana Lowry; brothers Elmer and wife Lois Lowry, and Max Lowry; sister Eileen and Doug Leake; and brother-in-law Ernie and wife Elsie Hayne. Mom was born in Darlingford, MB on September 1, 1925. Her early years were spent on the family farm, which held so many fond memories for her. She played baseball, curled and enjoyed playing the piano. At a young age Mom knew she was destined to be a teacher so in 1942 her teaching career began. She was in grade 11 and taught on a permit in the small community of Deerwood, MB. The next year she completed her grade 12 followed by Teachers College. Mom taught in Glenora, MB., Pilot Mound, MB and Killarney, MB. It was at a dance in Killarney where she met our father who was playing in a band and so their love story began. They were married on July 20, 1954 and lived in Killarney. They welcomed Kevin in 1959 followed by Sheryl in 1961. In 1963, the family moved to Carman, MB where they resided for 22 years. Mom was a substitute teacher for a few years and then was employed with the Pembina Times. Our childhood memories were of camping, fishing, water skiing, Mom’s homemade hamburgers and saskatoon pie, and of course music was a constant in our household. Kevin and I share special memories of all the family get togethers being entertained by Mom on the piano, Dad on the guitar and aunts and uncles playing the violin, saxophone, clarinet, and drums! After raising their children, Mom and Dad retired to Brandon, MB in 1985. They joined a band and entertained for local dances. Mom became a Golden Swinger and Dad’s band played for the “dancing gals” as they entertained in many Care Homes and other venues. With the move to Hobbs Manor, a new band was formed “The Happy Hobb Nobbers” Mom was unable to play the piano due to Macular Degeneration, however being the feisty redhead she was, she became the band’s drummer! During retirement Mom and Dad enjoyed their summers at the cottage at Pelican Lake and trips to Penticton, BC and the East Coast to visit family. Mom continued to appreciate being able to spend time at the cottage after Dads passing. Her grandsons were her pride and joy and she felt so blessed to see them grow into fine young men and be a part of their everyday lives. After Dad passed away in 2005, Mom continued to live at Hobbs Manor until an unfortunate fall in 2019. Mom then moved into Valleyview Care Centre where she passed away. Thank you to Dr Caplan and the staff of Valleyview for your kindness and the wonderful care you gave our Mom in her final years. Mom is now reunited with her beloved Bob and the Lowry and Hayne clan as the music continues on! The family will cherish her memory privately at the family cottage.
