Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald “Barry” Fowlie on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born March 23, 1937 in Hamiota, he farmed with his father in McConnell before moving to Shoal Lake to finish high school. After graduating, Barry worked in Winnipeg and then in Calgary before moving back to Shoal Lake to help his father run the International Farm Equipment and Dodge Automotive Dealership. Barry and his family finally settled in Brandon in 1975 where he worked for Westman Equipment selling International farm equipment until 1986 when he went to work for Pioneer Life Assurance. He was always the salesman. During his youth, like most rural kids, Barry played hockey in the winter and ball in the summer. He was later inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame with other members of his Hamiota Redsocks team. In later years, he enjoyed coaching hockey in Brandon and competing in archery with Reed and Sharon. Barry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon, children Rick (Jo-Ann), Kim (Dale) and Reed (Layna), grandchildren Chace and Rowan and sister Beth. He was predeceased by his daughter Donalda, his parents and his siblings Robert and Jo-Ann. There will be a public graveside service for family and friends at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Barry may be made to Parkinson Canada, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2 or to a charity of one’s choice.
