Obituary for Bernice Erma Erskine

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bernice Erma Erskine (nee Lange) after courageously battling cancer over many years. She passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the age of 90 years.

Born on the family farm near Kincaid, Saskatchewan on February 24, 1933 to Joseph and Mary Lange, Bernice was the oldest of three children. Her early education was at a small country schoolhouse and then she went to high school in Gravelbourg, SK. There she met Bob Erskine and they soon married on November 4, 1949. They moved to Brandon and over the years completed the family with three daughters – Linda, Alyne and Dianne.

One of Bernice’s accomplishments came when she obtained her OR technician certification. She worked in the operating room at Brandon General Hospital for 25 years. She absolutely loved her profession and all her co-workers.

Bernice and Bob retired to Rivers and enjoyed all that came with living at the lake – friends, outdoor activities and hosting grandchildren. Their favourite activities were curling and golf, and to our surprise, Bernice became an avid Wheat King fan. They also loved to travel for winters in California and Arizona. Bernice was an awesome cook and baker. Bernice and Bob moved back to Brandon in 2012.

Bernice’s priority was always family, and she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would look at them or their pictures and say, “I have a beautiful family!” She was very proud of them all and loved them very much.

Bernice is survived by her daughters Linda (Eldon) Baker, Alyne Haugen and Dianne (Walter) Jacobson; grandchildren Rob (Taryn) Baker, Rick (Renae) Baker, Cherie Davey and Kristen Jacobson (Rob Munday); and great grandchildren Breklyn, Baron, Mira, Emily and Levi. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Bob; mother Mary, father Joseph, brother Wally and sister Helen.

Thank you to all the staff at Valleyview Care Centre for your kindness and loving care. You are greatly appreciated.

The Celebration of Bernice’s Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, Brandon on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Neufeld officiating. Interment will take place at Brandon Cemetery.
