Obituary for Mike Linski
LINSKI: Mike passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
Mike was born in a small house in the village of Weeden, Manitoba (north of Dauphin) on October 8, 1926. He was the second eldest of Dora and Peter Linski and the family moved to Brandon when he was three years old. Mike attended David Livingstone School in Brandon only for early years then was put to work in the market gardens. He drove a truck for Butcher and Sons delivering items throughout the city and then worked at McKenzie Seeds where he met the love of his life. He got his break when he was hired as a machinist at Modern Machine where he stayed for over 40 years. Everyone said he was the best machinist in the province! After retiring, he ran his own business on his acreage for over 25 years. He fixed cars, engines, you name it, and he could build pretty much anything that was asked of him.
Mike married Elsie Joyce Ekins in July of 1949. Mike loved the outdoors and they spent many weekends camping at Ninette and at lakes in Riding Mountain National Park with their tent and motorcycle. Once Brenda was born in 1951, they needed more space, so Mike built a tent camper and off they went. Later he built a trailer and they parked it at Sandy Lake, where he enjoyed many years of waterskiing, trick skiing and pulling kids on skis and boards until all hours. They eventually moved the cabin to Thomas Lake, where he continued to water-ski (until age 80), swim and enjoy the water. Mike spent many hours fishing on the lake and in the winter snowmobiling. He always had a dog and at least one cat on his acreage. Mike loved to dance and bowl and did so until the age of 93 years.
For those that knew him, Mike will always be remembered for his unique sense of humour, his kindness, his love of life and helping others. He is survived by his daughter Brenda (Neill Koensgen), granddaughter Tracey (Lorne Hunt), brother Steve Linski, sister-in-law Gwen Linski and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce in 2008, his partner Gladys Snyder in 2016, sisters Anne Lavallie and her husband Ben and Pat Beath, brother-in-law Mack, brother Bill, nephews Brent Leganchuk and Robbie Linski and niece Angela Linski.
The ceremony to celebrate Mike's life will be held Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, to accommodate social distancing, you will be directed to an outside gathering area. A webcasting link will be available on his memorial page at www.memorieschapel.com. Eulogy by Brenda Linski, candle lighting by Tracey Linski and Lorne Hunt as Urn Bearer. Interment will follow at Humesville Cemetery.
