Obituary for Brent Legg

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Brent Legg on Monday, September 14, 2020 at the age of 58 years. Brent was predeceased by his mother Georgina Legg and stepfather Ernest Alder of Virden, MB. Born July 4, 1962, Brent was raised on a farm in Southwest Manitoba and attended school in Pipestone and Reston before moving to Brandon to pursue post-secondary education. Brent completed a Music degree, a Bachelor of General Studies and a Master in Music Education, all at Brandon University. He then began his 35-year career at Brandon University as an Instructor in the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music teaching recorder and harpsichord, then as Assistant Director of Collegium Musicum and in the Theory and History Department of the School of Music. He was active as a continuo player, arranger, and composer, and regularly offered recorder workshops for prospective teachers and elementary music classes in the schools. Honouring his mother and their love for music, Brent set up the “Georgina M. Legg Memorial Scholarship in Winds” and the “Brent Legg Scholarship in Music Theory or History”. Brent was also gracious with his time, volunteering with many charitable organizations throughout his life. There will be a gathering for friends and family at a later date, details to be announced.
