Obituary for Carole Ann Riddick

Carole Ann Riddick passed away at Winnipeg’s St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the age of 73 years. She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Norma Riddick of Brandon, MB. She will be missed by her brother Bill (Jan), nephew Steven (Jessica), niece Angela (Hayk) and her cousins across Canada and the US.

Carole was born in Rivers, Manitoba. Her family then moved to The Pas, then Rainy River, ON, before moving to Fort Frances, ON. After graduating high school, Carole moved to Winnipeg and stayed there for the remainder of her life. Carole had a long working career at Great West Life, where she began employment soon after arriving in Winnipeg. Unfortunately, at age 23 years, just as her adult life was starting, Carole experienced total kidney failure. Subsequently, she was put on dialysis. A kidney transplant was the best hope for a better future, and she was fortunate to be a match with her mother Norma. Shortly after, a kidney transplant was performed successfully between mother and daughter. Carole was forever grateful for this gift of life given by her mother, becoming one of the longest living kidney transplant patients in Canada at 50 years. Carole loved Bingo and she spent many years helping out at the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg. Besides her two trips to Hawaii, Carole enjoyed camping and took many trips to Florida and Toronto, spending time with her parents and brother’s family.

Unfortunately, in 2018 Carole was diagnosed with colon cancer. As unfair as it was, she accepted it and gave it her best fight for five years with her usual feisty nature while enduring unrelenting pain. In the end, it was not meant to be. We wish to extend our gratitude to Carole’s cousin, the late Susan Anderson and husband Wayne Anderson of Winnipeg for being there for her over the years and especially since the cancer diagnosis. Also, a special thank you to Wayne for recently setting Carole up at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence and his selfless support for Carole during the last months of her battle with cancer.

Now you’re free Sis…

A private interment will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Brandon, where Carole will be laid to rest alongside her parents.

Donations in memory of Carole may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
