Obituary for David Ronald McMillan

McMILLAN: David Ronald. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, dad and grandpa on November 14, 2022 at the age of 79 years. Dave was born in 1943 in Portage la Prairie to Ron and Mildred McMillan. Davey lived his formative years in Austin. There he learned to love adventure, swim, hunt, fish and his famous jive. In 1969, he married Joanne (nee Thompson) in MacGregor. They began their early marriage moving 11 times in 6 years, settling in Brandon in 1974 to raise their family. Dave started his business, McMillan Diesel Injection Service, and ran it for over 50 years right up until days before his passing. He played for the Rob Roy/McMillan Diesel Old Timers Hockey Team for many years. He also spent many happy times with friends at Triple Oak Ranch, where he taught his family to work hard and play harder! He spent many proud moments cheering on his grandchildren at hockey games, recitals, horse jumping events and concerts. Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent his last day out hunting. It brings us comfort knowing that he spent his last hours doing something that he loved. His work ethic and skills were astounding to all who knew him. He was the most hardworking, gentle and loving man we have ever known. We honour him, as he should be honoured. Left to treasure his memory are his wife Joanne, daughters Jacqueline (Vaughn), Alanna and Kelly (Ronald); grandchildren Ryan, Jared, Rory, Rhiannon, Calixto and Connor; and many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Mildred, sister Ida (Bob), brother Herb (Myrna) and niece Terri-Wynne. “You will love someone that you can’t live without and your heart will be badly broken; the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss…but they live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly and still hurts when the weather gets cold… but you learn to dance with the limp.” The Celebration of David’s Life was held at Trinity United Church on Monday, November 21, 2022 with Rev. Doug Neufeld officiating. Donations in memory of Dave may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5, www.heartandstroke.ca.
