Obituary for Dennis Bernard Hume

Dennis Hume, age 87 years, passed away at Fairview Home on Friday, April 14, 2023 after a long illness.

Born in the family home in Langford Municipality on August 28, 1935, Dennis attended school until grade 8 when he left to work on the family farm. Dennis married Louise Sinclair in Brookdale on March 5, 1960 and began working at McKenzie Seeds and later United Grain Growers. He worked tirelessly for his customers and made many friendships in the process. After retiring due to illness, Dennis volunteered with St. John Ambulance, and spent many hours researching his family tree, doing leatherwork and learning the ukelele. Dennis was always studying a new interest – photography and computers being a long-time passion. He always found time to support his grandchildren and great grandchildren by attending sport events, concerts and many other celebrations.

A well-liked and respected man for whom family was all, Dennis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise, three daughters Karen (Brian) Erickson, Kathy Hume (Larry Nickel) and Jo-Ann (Tim) Holt; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister and their families. He was predeceased by his parents George and Ivy Hume, parents-in-law Joseph and Violet Sinclair and brother-in-law Russel Sinclair.

Ever passing on his wisdom by the example of how he lived his life each day, he will be sorely missed, but friends and family alike wish him the freedom and peace he has so longed for these past few years, as he transitions to the beautiful light.

A private graveside service will take place at a later date with Cory Hume and Dwayne Erickson as urn bearers.

Donations in memory of Dennis may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 – 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6.
