Diane Louise McGuire
April 2, 1951 – February 7, 2023
On Tuesday February 7th, 2023, our cherished wife, mother and grandmother passed away at the age of 71 with her husband and daughters by her side.
Diane was born April 2nd, 1951, in Winnipeg, MB to John and Mae Fowler. She grew up in Winnipeg where she completed her schooling. She met her future husband, Bill McGuire, on a blind date and after a few months they were married. In 1972 they moved to Brandon, MB shortly after the birth of first daughter Tammy and purchased the house they would live in for almost 50 years.
Bill and Diane had their second daughter Maureen in 1975 and once the girls got old enough to go to school she started a home daycare. It started out with just a few kids after school and expanded to a fully licenced daycare that she operated for over 20 years. She enjoyed all the children that came through her care and loved to get updates from them as years passed.
Diane was active in the community and was a Brownie leader, a member on a 5-pin bowling team and she was deeply involved with the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada and helped run a local chapter here in Manitoba. She made many close friends and loved supporting them anyway she could.
Diane enjoyed spending her spare time knitting blankets for her family, gardening, doing puzzles, colouring and reading books. She loved her grandchildren fiercely and often spoiled them whenever a holiday or birthday came around. She enjoyed going to the grandchildren’s hockey and football games, gymnastics competitions, band concerts and spending as much time as she could with them.
Diane is survived by her husband Bill McGuire; her daughters Tammy (Todd) Maunder and Maureen (Warren) McDuffe; five grandchildren Brynn, Kiera, Finn, Brady and Cole. Her brothers Brian (Lucy) Fowler and John Robert (Bob) Fowler along with nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many special friends she made throughout the years.
A memorial will be held at a later date as per the family’s request.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Diane may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada at phacanada.ca or PHA Canada, 408-55 Water Street Office 8928, Vancouver, BC V6B 1A1.
