Edythe Margaret Pople (Graham) passed away peacefully on April 7, 2020 at her home in Winnipeg, MB, at 73 years of age. Margaret was born on September 26, 1946 in Minnedosa, MB to parents Eldon Graham and Ruby Graham (Bradshaw). The family moved to Churchill in 1956 and to Brandon in 1960. As a child Margaret developed a life-long love for literature. She greatly valued education and after high school at Brandon Collegiate Institute she obtained her B.A. and B. Ed. at Brandon University. She started her teaching career in Virden and then moved to Brandon where she taught at Riverview School. On December 26, 1970 Margaret married David Pople. The couple had their first home in Brandon and later settled on a hobby farm near Justice, MB. They raised four children, Neil, Michael, John, and Zara. They enjoyed living in the country and were proud of their large family. Margaret grew a garden every year and canned and froze the vegetables. Margaret and Dave enjoyed hosting parties, bonfires, special occasions and visits with friends and family, including many with Margaret's sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Jerry Ross and their family. Margaret enjoyed writing plays and short stories, and reading and collecting books. Margaret first returned to work teaching English as a Second Language to adults. While she was studying for her Special Education Certificate she worked as a teacher’s assistant in Brandon. Upon completing her studies she became a classroom and resource teacher in Neepawa, MB. After David passed away in 1998, Margaret lived in Neepawa until her retirement. She then spent a year in Stratford, ON, with her friend Carol Rankmore before moving to Winnipeg, MB. She taught terms at schools in Ste. Anne, MB, and Grand Rapids, MB, and enjoyed the new challenges. During her working life and after retirement, Margaret was proud to have co-authored educational materials with her sister Marilyn and presented their expertise with her at inservices in Canada and the US. Throughout her life Margaret had a passion for theatre and contributed to community theatre productions in Neepawa, Brandon, Shilo and Winnipeg as a playwright, director, and in any capacity she was needed. She was interested in every aspect of a production and attending theatre and opera performances was one of her biggest pleasures. She travelled to Stratford every year to visit Carol and looked forward to the plays they would see and discuss together. She participated in theatre productions with her sister Marilyn and her friend Shirley Pogson, and they attended many together. She enjoyed visiting art galleries and museums and loved choosing presents for her grandchildren. Margaret enjoyed visiting with her brother Murray and sister-in-law Janet and other family and friends both in person and on the phone. She treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and loved to talk about them. She was very proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She was a keen member of the book club and enjoyed other events with Marion and her friends at Lions Park Square. Margaret is survived by her sister Marilyn (Jerry) of Brandon and her brother Murray (Janet) of Lake Cowichan, BC, as well as her children, Neil of Winnipeg, Michael (Cori Benoit) of Brandon, John of Neepawa and Zara of Brandon, and her grandchildren, Samantha and Zara. Margaret will be memorialized at a family graveside service at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
