Obituary for Elaine Common

Edythe “Elaine” Common. With great sadness the family announces Elaine passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Riverdale Personal Care Home with family by her side. Elaine was born July 17, 1930 in Bradwardine to Bill and Gladys Graham. She resided in Bradwardine other than a few years she spent teaching in Douglas, MB. On December 9, 1950, Elaine and John Common were married on the Graham farm. They moved into their home in Bradwardine and raised their growing family. Many lifelong friends were made in those years. Mom was a devoted community volunteer, cooking or working at the many small town events. Her baking and canning was enjoyed by many, especially her family. In 1972 the family moved to Rivers. Mom loved the family get togethers - always big and noisy, and time spent with their group of friends. Playing cards, board games with friends, watching curling, or most important, her bingo nights were the pleasures she enjoyed most. Mom was a kind, strong and gentle woman who enjoyed the simple things. Mom, you will be remembered for your gentle soul, caring heart and unconditional love. Left to cherish and honour her memories are children Janice (Bruce) Walker, Jo-Anne (Bob) Curry, Graham (Peggy) Common, Duane (Audrey) Common and Shannon Neal. Also remembering grandma with love are Wally (Carla), Meaghen (Cory), Jonathon (Tiffany), Brady, Wyatt (Sam) and Kylie, as well as great grandchildren Rachel, Kyle, Kaedyn, Landen and Bennett. She is also survived by sister Sandra (Chuck) Moody and many special nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Johnny of 64 years, son Darrell, infant son Malcom, parents Bill and Gladys Graham, brother Garry and in-laws on both sides. We would like to thank Dr. Anita Vermaak for the exceptional care you gave Mom. Also a big thank you to the Riverdale Personal Care Home for your dedicated care of mom; we will be forever grateful. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Elaine may be made to Riverdale Personal Care Home, Activity Department, Box 428, Rivers, MB R0K 1X0 or Heart & Stoke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.
“In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place no one else will ever fill.”
Rest in Peace Mom
