Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Irene Calverley (Gibson)
It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth “Betty” Irene Calverley (nee Gibson) announce her passing on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the age of 97 years, at Fairview Home in Brandon, Manitoba.
She was the second child born to Llewellyn Leroy and Laura May Gibson (nee Matchett) in Treherne, Manitoba on June 10, 1925. Betty attended Normal School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Betty taught in Bird River, Libau, and then Whitewater, Manitoba where she met her husband and soulmate Everette James Calverley. They were married December 23, 1946, and together they were blessed with eight children who were raised on their farm by Underhill, Manitoba.
After the passing of her husband in 1969, Betty persevered and continued to farm alongside her children. After her retirement, Betty moved to Brandon to further enjoy her life with friends and family.
Betty loved playing the piano, reading, listening to music, travelling, telling and writing stories, gardening, drinking tea, and above all, spending time with her family. Left to mourn are Betty’s children Barbara, Beverley, Vicki, Clifford, Dennis, Douglas, Donald, Kris, son and daughters in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Cecil, sister-in-law Ina, and many other family and friends.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Everette; siblings Lew, Frank, Joyce, Bert, Jean, Walter, Vic, Billy and Cedric; son-in-law Dan; many brothers and sisters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held at Hartney Cemetery on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Celebration of Betty’s Life at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North at 3:00 p.m. For those not able to attend in person, the Celebration of Betty’s Life will be webcast on her memorial page at www.memorieschapel.com.
