Erwin James Burney was born to James and Anne Burney (nee Burghart), on December 27, 1950 in Boissevain, Manitoba. He grew up on the family acreage near Chater on the low road to Shilo. He attended Chater school, Elton collegiate and ACC. He spent his younger years riding bikes, swimming in the creek, skating and playing hockey on the creek along with his brothers and sisters. Playing baseball, tobogganing and ski-dooing were also favorite pastimes. He loved the many Christmas’s and visits from his aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Erwin’s first job was at the ripe age of 11 years old at the dairy farm down the hill. At 12 years old he got a government job measuring and recording the daily level of the creek. Through the years he worked as a mechanic, truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Erwin had a great creative mind and at one point he designed kitchen cupboards for a local company in Brandon.

He liked to fish, hunt, and really enjoyed camping with his family at Lake William. Erwin encountered many adversities in his life, the most devastating being the passing of his beloved wife Kim in 1993. He pursued the dream that they had and bought a farm south east of Brandon close to Wawanesa. Due to a severe back injury he was unable to work and was guided by constant pain and many disabling restrictions. In spite of this he persevered as best he could. He spent his time enjoying the farm, his children, and horses.

Erwin loved his children and he was always so proud of their accomplishments. He had endless pride for his kids Donnie, Tyler and Tamarae and was so elated when his grandchildren started to come into his life. He loved to spend time with them and he glowed with delight, pride and excitement in everything they offered him. When he was with them all his woes would vanish because he was so wrapped up in the joy they would bring him. Erwin also took great comfort and enjoyment from his little dog Chloe who passed a couple years prior. For many years he said that the love for his kids and grandchildren is what kept him going. Dad was a fighter and he fought a good fight and now can rest in peace. You are sadly missed but lovingly and warmly remembered forever from your most prized possessions: your kids, grandchildren, and family.

Left to celebrate his life are: his children Donnie (Karra), Tyler (Tessa) and Tamarae (Marc). His grandchildren: D.J., Zach, Tyler, Corbin, Diana, Nathan, Hailey, Ryder, Kingston, and Blake. His brother and sisters: Doris, Larry (Brenda), Lloyd (Penny), Lois (Jim) and Carol (Wes). He also left great memories with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Erwin was predeceased by his beloved wife Kim, parents Jim and Anne.

Isaiah 40-31: Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.

The Burney family lived up the road from us. My family was close to Erwin's. We visited back and forth and swam in the same creeks Erwin did. My brother Kevin and I send our deepest condolences.
