Obituary for Eugene Steve Bandusiak

Eugene “Gene” Bandusiak entered the spiritual world on Friday, January 13, 2023. Waiting with open arms was his loving wife Phyllis, his parents, sisters, and brother. Gene has left behind his daughters Susan (Jim) and Teresa (Darryl); grandchildren Ian (Jessica) and Megan (Braden); and great grandson Theoren (Megan and Braden).

Gene was a kind and generous soul who had such a firecracker personality. Gene spent 35+ years working for the Brandon School Division. He touched the lives of many students, teachers, and other BSD staff. Gene will be greatly missed for his kind heart, helping hands and sarcastic sense of humour. Everyone he came in contact with, most certainly knew his favourite saying: “Do you know Martin?” with the punchline being “Martin up.” Anyone who knew Gene from his days working on maintenance for BSD, will have the memory of the big orange hand. He used it to wave to everyone as he drove the school board truck. He would always say that there were too many people to wave to in a day, that his own hand would get tired, hence became the creation of the big orange hand.

Gene will be missed by all of those who had the pleasure to get to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family. Life from this point on will never be the same.

The family would like to give a huge thank you to Dr. Moller and nurse April for making his last bit of time on earth as comfortable as possible. As well, thank you to all other staff from 500 who made the effort to make sure he was as comfortable as possible in his final days.

The Celebration of Gene’s Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, Brandon on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held to place Gene and his beloved wife Phyllis together for eternity.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gene may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 – 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow.
I am the gently falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain.
I am the fields of ripening grain.
Of birds in circling flight.
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom.
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sings.
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

Rest in peace Dad, this is not goodbye – this is we will see you again. Love you to the moon and back…
