BALL: Eunice “Eleanor” (nee Bevis) passed away peacefully early in the morning of Friday, December 11, 2020 from natural causes, surrounded by her children. She was born in Killarney, Manitoba, the only child of Alfred and Mary Bevis. She spent her early childhood in southern Saskatchewan before the family moved to Brandon in 1938. Mom graduated from St. Augustine’s school and studied piano at St. Michael’s Academy. Although she lost her mother as a teenager, she had a close relationship with her mother’s family (Dixon) in Killarney and helped care for her aging Aunts. Eleanor worked at Kresge’s department store for a time, and after her marriage to Henry Ball in 1952, gave piano lessons and kept accounts for the family cattle farm, Henry’s Plumbing & Heating and later Brandon Septic Service while raising sons Jim, Ron and Bruce and daughter Tammy. Eleanor and Henry volunteered for the North End Community Centre in the 1970’s. Mom enjoyed needlepoint and painting at times. She was a good seamstress and baker and passed on the love of both to her daughter. Crocheting and knitting were other activities she loved, and the family enjoyed the fruits of her labour with many a sweater. The piano was a life-long love of mom’s and her upright piano is in good hands with grandson Tyler who has inherited her musical talent. Many summers were spent relaxing at the cottage at Sandy Lake. She enjoyed trips to BC to visit relatives, and holidays with her husband to Florida and Cuba. Their last trip abroad was to eastern England to connect with her father’s family and Holland to see Henry’s aunt. Eleanor is survived by her husband Henry; children Jim (Terry), Ron (Laurie), Bruce (Shari) and Tammy (Michael); grandchildren Scott (Naydia), Angie (Brian), Tyler, Tysen (Sheena), Brodie (Ashleigh) and Matthew; and great grandchildren Elizabeth, Chase, Jett, Brook, Aiden and Asher. She will be missed greatly by all including the family toy poodle, Lily. A celebration of Eleanor’s life will take place later in the summer of 2021. At that time, we may be able to get together to share our cherished memories of her.
