Evelyn Elizabeth Cleaver passed away peacefully at Fairview Home on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the age of 92 years. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Cheryl (Raymond) Robson, son Keith (Kathy), grandchildren Jeff (Janique) Robson and Jodelle (Ryan) Semeniuk and great granddaughters Danica and Danelle Robson. Also surviving are her sister May Parkins, sister-in-law Jean Meadows and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Arthur, parents Cecil (Edith) Meadows, brothers Ward (Ethel) and Cecil Meadows, sister Marion (Bruce) Cleaver, brothers-in-law Francis Parkins, Robert (Margaret) Cleaver and Jim Cleaver, sister-in-law Mildred (Norman) Halls and father and mother-in-law Joseph (Mabel) Cleaver. Evelyn was born on January 24, 1928 in Brandon. She grew up on the family farm and attended school at Gourlay and Moore Park. Evelyn married Arthur “Art” Cleaver on October 20, 1948 and they farmed in the Moore Park area for 52 years. Besides crops, they had livestock and Mum often talked of milking the cows. Being a very hard worker, she was not afraid to help with whatever job needed done on the farm. Evelyn enjoyed freezing, making relishes and pickles from her vegetable garden, picking berries for canning, jams and jelly as well as making delicious bread, pies, cookies, and desserts. As a community minded lady, she was always willing to prepare food or help whenever needed for community events. She was a member of the Moore Park UCW as well as the Glanton North Group. Curling, community bonspiels, dancing, playing cards, games, bingo, and puzzles were favourite pastimes as many hours were spent with family and friends enjoying a game. Evelyn was very talented at sewing, knitting, crocheting and doing all crafts. Evelyn and Art were so happy to welcome their grandchildren to the family and for Evelyn, it was a time to knit sweaters, hats, mitts, blankets, etc. for them. She was a very generous person and enjoyed making socks for everyone at Christmas. She also donated many pairs of mitts, toques and scarves to the Christmas Cheer for several years. We will all treasure the special gifts that she made us and are so thankful that she always took the time to teach us her skills. Over the years Evelyn and Art took many trips to Victoria to visit family and shorter weekend trips to Mildred's. In 2000, they moved to an apartment in Brandon, still enjoying short trips, watching the blue jays and curling on tv, as well as coffee at Zeller's or the Towne Centre to meet and visit with friends. After Art's passing in 2008, Evelyn stayed in the apartment where she appreciated her time with her sister May and friends there. She still played bingo and usually had a puzzle going which everyone helped with. “Chicken Foot” Dominoes became a very popular game and we all remember our Mum, Grandma, Great Grandma at all family gatherings and have a game. Evelyn moved to Victoria Landing in July 2013 and then Fairview Personal Care Home in October 2017. Although her health continued to decline, she made new friends, enjoyed all activities at both places as well as spending holiday celebrations at Cheryl and Raymond's with the family. We are all so proud of Mum for her strength and determination in dealing with Dementia over the years and even though we will miss her, we are grateful that she can now rest in peace with Art at the Moore Park Cemetery. Due to Covid 19 Restrictions, a private family interment has taken place with Rev. Barbara Jardine officiating.
