Obituary for Helen Agnes Johnston (Harrison)

Helen Agnes Johnston (nee Harrison), age 80 years, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre surrounded by her three daughters. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dennis; daughters Tari (David) Faulkner, Jodi (Randy) Peyer and Traci (Stan) McCutchin; and grandchildren Craig, Brent, Megan, Kyle, Erin, Eric and Ian. Helen was born in Brandon on May 24, 1940; she attended Earl Oxford School and graduated from St. Michael’s Academy in 1958. She then continued her education and became a nurse (LPN) and worked in Hamiota, Treherne and Brandon. After raising her three daughters, Helen returned to work as a Health Care Aide at Fairview Home. Helen was loved by all and answered to many different names: Helen, Chub, Mom, Grandma, Nanny, and Auntie Tootie. Dennis and Helen moved from Brandon to Shilo in 1973, where they lived until 1996, raising their three daughters and making numerous life-long friends. One of her proudest accomplishments in life was being present at all her grandchildren’s births. Helen enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home, always saying “The more the merrier!” Helen loved to dance, especially the “jive”, and she and Dennis made sure to dance at each of their daughter’s high school graduations. She also loved outings with her girlfriends for coffee, lunches and fowl suppers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will not be a funeral service. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the BRHC Foundation – Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
