Obituary for Ian Bruce Farley

Peacefully, following a lengthy illness, Ian Bruce Farley of Douglas, MB passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020. Ian was born November 18,1959 to Hazel and Basil at the Carberry Hospital. He attended Douglas Elementary, Elton Collegiate and Crocus Plains High School. Following high school Ian farmed in the Douglas area for many years. In his younger years Ian enjoyed curling, hunting, collecting antiques and carpentry. He loved to find the first crocus in spring, bring home a bouquet of marsh marigolds for his mom, or take a drive to see flocks of geese heading south for the winter. He had an appreciation of all things mother nature had to offer. Ian had a great sense of humor and at times couldn’t finish telling certain stories for laughter, often the result of less than stellar behavior of others. Ian would recount every detail of situations regardless of when it had occurred. Ian also had an epic ability to deliver a great sarcastic burn toward anyone that earned it. He had a knack for planning that usually resulted in him winning, not having to help move cattle or somehow being absent from unpleasant farm tasks. He also had an uncanny ability to recall the family tree of anyone that had lived in the Douglas area. Ian was a kind, gentle soul, was generous to a fault and loved to be with his family. It was important to Ian to stay in touch with his extended family with phone calls, and visits. He loved his trips to Alberta to visit his sister Penny. He loved nothing more than talking to his nieces and nephews about what was happening in their lives. On Christmas day Ian could tell you in detail what gifts his nieces and nephews had received. In his later years he took a great interest in his niece Leanne (Leannie to Ian) and her family. Ian treasured the time he spent with his dad’s brothers and sisters. During his later years Ian lived in Brandon, but his heart was always at the family farm in Douglas. Ross and Cheryl always had the door open for Ian. Ian is survived by his mom Hazel, brothers Grant (Donna), Fraser (Lorelle), and Ross (Cheryl) and sisters Connie (Ron) and Penny as well as many nieces and nephews and the extended Farley family. Ian was predeceased by his dad Basil and sister Donna. Ian was many things to many people, but he was loved by all of us. His gentle soul and kind nature secured a place in our hearts. The sun has set on an amazing life. Much love to you Ian until we meet again. In Ian’s memory, donations may be made to Madford Cemetery, c/o Bev Richardson, Douglas, MB R0K 0R0.
