Obituary for Ieleen Turner

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Ieleen Turner (nee Porterfield) announce her passing on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Ieleen was born on August 3, 1928 in Brandon, Manitoba to George and Mary (nee Lockhart). In her younger days, she attended Little Souris School and enjoyed participating in church services, Christmas concerts, sports days, and community clubs. Ieleen married the love of her life, Ross Turner, on June 26, 1954 and together they had four sons: Ken, Bob, Bill and Gord. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage on the family farm until Ross’s untimely passing in November 1998. Raising four sons kept Ieleen busy and she thrived on providing delicious home-cooked meals and an abundance of love. The farm was a great place for the boys to grow up and has provided countless memories for multiple generations to look back on. Ieleen enjoyed keeping very active in the community until old age made her slow down. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening, word search puzzles, and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the lights of her life. Family was everything to her and she would have given up everything for any of them. Over the years, Ieleen also kept several close friends that made her life so much brighter, right up until the end. Going to church, taking drives, getting her hair done, and going out for Chinese Food were just some highlights she always looked forward to. Ieleen was always optimistic and had a great sense of humour and these qualities persisted even into her last few weeks. Many tears have already been shed from her passing and she will be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her sons Ken (Barb), Bob, Bill (Judy) and Gord (Janet), and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ross, parents, brother Bill and daughter-in-law Jo-Ann. Mom spent her whole life correcting people on the spelling of “Ieleen” so when you think of her, remember that unique way of spelling it. The Celebration of Ieleen’s Life was held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Memories Chapel. Ieleen was laid to rest next to her husband at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ieleen may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, PO Box 20077, Bdn South PO, Brandon, MB R7A 6Y8 or Pancreatic Cancer Canada, 508 – 36 Eglington Avenue W., Toronto, ON M4R 1A1.

From your sons: We love you and will miss you greatly Mom. Say hi to Dad, our grandparents, and the rest of your family for us.
