Lillian “Irene” Brown, beloved wife of the late Wilfred Brown; loving mom to Terry (Kim), Maxine, and Murray (Tammy); and dear grandmother to Jennifer (Bryan), Jaime (Paul), Alex (Jordyn), and Noah (Kathleen), passed away on July 22, 2022 at her home, with family at her side. Irene was born in the RM of Cornwallis on June 14, 1930. While living in Brandon and working at a creamery, she met Wilf and they were married on October 10, 1959. She was a true partner to Dad as they farmed together in the Carroll district for many years, raising 3 children and later retiring to Brandon in 1989, enjoying time with their 4 grandchildren. In their almost 50 years together, they shared a love of family, friends, farm life, retirement…and most of all, a love of each other. After Dad passed away in 2009, Mom’s focus continued to be her family and friends. She enjoyed going out for coffee and meals, playing bingo, watching sports – especially baseball and curling, and was a proud lifetime member of the UCW. She was a wonderful cook and baker – we looked forward to her delicious pies, cinnamon buns, and other tasty treats that she lovingly made for us. She was fun-loving, positive, determined and she faced health challenges with resiliency…continuing to live in her own home at age 92. One of her special memories was a family trip to see the Blue Jays play—her first in-person game at the age of 87. Irene was predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Richardson; brothers Tom, George, Bob and Jack; sisters Edie, Mary and Dot. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Irene is survived by one sister-in-law Fern Richardson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Ceremony to Celebrate Irene’s life will be held at Trinity United Church, 1515 – 6th Street, on Thursday, July 28 at 2:30. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Irene to Trinity United Church.
We take comfort knowing that she is together with Dad again.
