BUGA: Jean Ann Buga (nee Mazier) passed away at Valleyview Care Centre on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.
She was born in Brandon on November 16, 1923. Jean was the third daughter of four girls born to Stephen and Rose Mazier. She lived her entire 96 years of life in Brandon and was raised in the west end of the city. Jean attended Fleming School, Earl Oxford School and Brandon Collegiate Institute. As a young woman, she was employed at Clements Rexall Drug Store for ten years.
Jean was an adherent to the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association Lesia Uksanka Branch Brandon. In her earlier years, she was actively involved in the Ukrainian National Home, volunteering with the catering committee. Jean was a lifetime member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the U.T.U. Yuletide Lodge 399. Jean and her husband Bill enjoyed the many friends that were made while square dancing with Circle Eights. Her favorite times were outdoors in her garden.
Jean was predeceased by her soul mate and love of her life, her husband, Bill on June 13, 1999. She was also predeceased by her parents Stephen and Rose Mazier; her sisters and their spouses Helen (Danny) Maksymiuk and Josephine (Jim) Clark; brothers-in-law Andy Twa and James Buga; and niece Andrea Twa Gibeau. Left to cherish her memory are her son Jim (Jackie), grandson Jonathan, granddaughter Karla-Rae (Mathieu) Brosseau and great grandchildren Gabrielle, Luc and Charlie Brosseau. Jean is also survived by her sister Bernice Twa, nephew Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk and nieces Elaine Maksymiuk, Jean Maksymiuk, Carol McWilliam, Beverley Clark and their families. As well, Jean is survived by extended members of the Mazier and Batycky families.
A time of private viewing and visitation was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, June 25, 2020. A private funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, June 26, 2020. The service was presided by Rev. Fr. Melvin Slashinsky of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Pallbearers were Richard Borotsik, Jonathan Buga, Dan Karashowsky, Michael Maksymiuk, Dan Mazier and David Mazier. Interment followed at Brandon Cemetery.
