Obituary for Jean Vivian Elizabeth Chorney

With great sadness we announce the passing of Jean Vivian Elizabeth Chorney (nee Anderson) at Fairview Home in Brandon on Saturday February 29, 2020. Jean was born August 8, 1936 in The Pas, MB. After she moved to Brandon in 1952 at the young age of 16, Jean took a hairdressing course and worked for one year at Hunts Barber & Beauty Shop. Jean married John in 1954 and from that point forward raising her six children was her main priority. Jean completed her LPN nursing degree in 1977 and from 1978-83 she worked at Brandon General Hospital. Jean was predeceased by her parents George and Edith, brother Doug and sister Iris, husband John, daughter Susan Lynette and her dearly loved granddaughter Erin and great granddaughter Jessa. She leaves to mourn her passing; her children Dale (Laverne), Rick (Sherri), Darcy (Sheila), Randy (Grace), Darlyn (Ian) and her youngest, Cindy (Greg). She is also survived by her grandchildren; Helen, Jennifer, Kristina, Ryan, Johnny, Kate, Lisa, Saralee, Talia, Kayla, Lesli, Aimee, Alexandra and Joella as well as her great grandchildren Sawyer, Jaxon, Brielle, Karis, Nathan, Zion, Gwenyth, Greyson, Xander, Belle and Alleah along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jean was the third of 18 children born to George and Edith Anderson. Naturally, spending time with family had always been her joy. Jean loved to play Rummy and Crib with her beloved husband John and we would often find stacks of score sheets that they kept tally of their games. She loved to golf and go on trips for ice cream with her grandchildren. She taught her children how to make perogies and cabbage rolls, and there were many production line family events where hundreds of perogies, cabbage rolls and apple pies were made. Jean also absolutely loved a good lemon meringue pie or tart. Keeping her nails perfect and painted was a must – her color was always hot pink. When she had a moment to spare Jean loved to cross stitch, rug hook, knit, sew and cook; many gifts to family and friends were enjoyed from these passions. Travel was a requirement – a few trips to England with John, their cottage life at Brandosa Beach, many day trips with family and friends by Skidoo hauling a homemade sleigh to fit “as many kids possible”, camping at Manipogo Beach and Motor home trips down to the USA year over year. Sincere thanks to all the staff at Fairview Home for the care and compassion given to Jean. Although the last few years were difficult watching Mom fade from the effects of Parkinson’s, we were able to share some happy times with her until the end. On behalf of our family, we thank you for your prayers, well wishes and comforting thoughts, they are heartfelt and appreciated. The Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1:30 p.m., with Mike Waddell officiating. Jean will be laid to rest alongside John at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at a private family graveside service. Urn Bearers will be her son Darcy and daughter Cindy. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Parkinson Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9 or a charity of your choice.
