Obituary for Jeanette Van Heyst

VAN HEYST: Jeanette, born to Jacob and Nellie de Jong on September 20, 1935, passed away at her home in Brandon surrounded by family on Sunday, March 27, 2022. She leaves to mourn her husband Don, her large family and countless friends. Jeanette spent her childhood with two sisters and five brothers on a farm in Blackdale and then in nearby Winnipeg. There she began life with Don in 1955. She and Don brought their young family to Brandon in 1961. They raised their six children, Dianne, Daniel, Pat, Ron, Ted, and Dave, at Maple Grove Farm south of Brandon and at their farm in the Rugby area in the RM of Elton. Motivated by her Christ-like love for everyone she met, Jeanette served her family, her community, and especially her church throughout her life. Prayer was her constant companion. Jeanette graduated with honours from Brandon University in 1991, then worked on the pastoral care team at Brandon Hospital and Rideau Park Personal Care Home, as well as her own church, Brandon Christian Reformed. She and Don travelled widely across Canada, in Europe, and in the US. They enjoyed fifteen extended winter stays in Victoria, where they formed dear friendships. The family thanks all who attended the April 1 Service of Thanksgiving for Jeanette’s life. The recording of the service is available on Jeanette’s memorial page at www.memorieschapel.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jeanette may be made to Canadian Food Grains Bank, PO Box 767, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2L4 or Samaritan House, 820 Pacific Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0J1.
