WOLFE: John Harold. The embrace with his soulmate that Dad was longing for occurred on Friday, May 28, 2021. Johnny Harold Wolfe was born in Altona, Manitoba on October 2, 1942 to parents David and Justina Wolfe of Plum Coulee, Manitoba. Dad spent his first 17 years on the farm in Plum Coulee enjoying baseball, causing trouble in school, music and farm life. He attended school at the Meath School, a one room country schoolhouse until 1952, then continued his education at the Thames River School in Plum Coulee. He was never one that enjoyed school; he loved working with his hands and meeting new people. One of Dad’s greatest passions throughout life was playing music. He loved to entertain. He could play the guitar, fiddle, organ and squeeze box. He recalled proudly that he entered an amateur competition at the age of 14, singing and playing the guitar, the song that he performed was “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” by Elvis Presley. At the age of 17, Dad decided he wanted to go and explore life away from the family farm and moved to Winnipeg to board with his aunt and uncle. He returned to the farm almost every weekend to spend time with his family and friends. Dad’s first job in Winnipeg was with Winnipeg Motors where he was a car jockey. He later found his true passion in construction work and worked his way up to management. On one of Dad’s many weekend trips home, he met and fell in love with “the love of his life” Phyllis Penner and they married in July of 1963. Mom and Dad were inseparable until the time of her passing in August of 2019. Mom and Dad were blessed with three daughters, his “Three Little Bears”, during their time in Winnipeg. In 1976, dad was asked to oversee a housing development in Brandon, which was a big move for our family. Dad moved on from construction to own Wolfe Rentals and Mid West Insulation. When mom retired from teaching school in 1997, they decided to go into business together and they built and operated The Pop In Food Stand and Mini Golf in Rivers Provincial Park for seven years. Dad always liked to stay active and enjoyed spending his evenings in his garage buying, fixing and selling lawn mowers and snow blowers. This kept him busy while mom was out playing bingo with her friends. One of Dad’s prized possessions was his 1991 Chevy Pick Up. He restored it and cherished that truck until the day he passed. Dad’s many stories of his fast cars and snowmobiles will never be forgotten by his family. His face would light up when he talked about how fast he would go, or how he and his friends would do power turns in a field. If there was a fast machine around Dad would never miss the opportunity to get in and drive it. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Phyllis in August 2019, his parents David and Justina Wolfe, sister Hilda Henry, niece Vivian Harder and brother-in-law Richard Plett. He is survived and will always be loved by his daughters Bonnie (Randy), Sandra (Dean) and Meloni; grandchildren Barry (Kara), Valerie (Daniel), Sarah (Mike), Stephanie (Kyle), Samuel and Danielle; great grandchildren Payton, Abbi, Brock, Quinn and Julian; sisters Dorothy (Peter), Evelyn (Art) and Diana; and many nieces and nephews. The family will cherish his memory privately. Dad, we will carry your love in our hearts always. We have peace knowing that you are with Mom – “Together Forever”.
