Obituary for Joyce Arlene Randall (Fraser)

RANDALL: Joyce Arlene (nee Fraser), passed away peacefully at her residence, Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home on Thursday, May 20, 2021. Joyce was born in Melita, Manitoba to Harry and Selina Elizabeth “Bessie” Fraser on February 20, 1942. She spent her early years in Melita before moving to Strathclair as a teenager. Joyce met her husband and beloved dance partner, Edwin, in Shoal Lake. They were married on June 13, 1964 and lived in Shoal Lake before moving to Thompson and then to Brandon. Together they raised four children, three boys and one girl, on a beautiful acreage just outside the city, where they lived together for over 40 years. It was a difficult day when Joyce moved to Hillcrest Place in October 2020, as the struggles of Alzheimer’s began to take an incredible toll. More than anything, Joyce cherished being surrounded by her family. Her seven grandchildren and one great grandchild brought her tremendous joy. Family times always included croquet or bocce in the summer and crokinole or cards in the winter and meals crowded around the kitchen or dining room table. Joyce’s creativity shone in her sewing and quilting. Friends and family were recipients of lovingly made quilts, duvets, and pyjamas throughout the years. Joyce had many fond memories of working as a switchboard operator with the telephone office before staying home to raise her family and then at Fanny’s Fabrics, where she went to work part-time when the younger children were almost teenagers. Joyce was dedicated to praying for her family and friends, worshipping at First Baptist Church and leading a Bible study at Hillcrest Place for close to 20 years. Joyce leaves a legacy of love and faithfulness to all who knew and were loved by her. She will be forever remembered by her husband of almost 57 years, Edwin; her children Cam (Cindy Flanagan), Chris (Wanda te Bokkel), Leanne, and Fraser (Sharalee); grandchildren Calen, Carley, Brayden te Bokkel (Jordana), Emily, Wyatt, Zoe, and Quinn; and great-grandchild Charleigh te Bokkel. A family graveside service was held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Humesville Cemetery in the Municipality of Elton. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home – Recreation Department, 930 – 26th Street, Brandon, MB R7B 2B8.
