Obituary for Katherine Siotha Andronick (Hawkins)

ANDRONICK: Katherine Siotha “Granny”, age 83 years, passed away quietly with heartbroken family at her side on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

Katherine Siotha Hawkins was born May 21, 1938 in the Island Ford community of Lake City, Tennessee. She moved to Brandon in 1963 and after her first marriage ended, she met and married Harry Andronick and together they raised Katherine’s children and made a family with many cherished memories.

Katherine worked at many jobs over the years, always in the service industry: Woolco, Canadian Inn-Sportsman Corner, Sokol Hall Club Room and Banquet Hall, McKenzie Seeds and Albert’s Bistro. For years she made and sold perogies and other Ukrainian dishes that she was proud to be able to make and share with other families for special meals. She was always tickled that her Ukrainian brothers-in-law Henry and Mike enjoyed her perogies. Katherine loved hosting and cooking for her family and friends and her day was complete when she had provided a good meal. It did not matter, if you were there, and you were hungry, you ate.

She was a member of Brandon Sokol bowling league and cribbage club and for a while enjoyed golfing. She was most proud of her flower gardens and her beefsteak tomatoes. Growing up on a rural tobacco farm with 11 brothers and sisters taught Katherine how to be strong and survive against overwhelming odds. She instilled in both her kids and grandkids the importance and blessings of family, hard work, and laughter.

Katherine was predeceased by her husband Harry Andronick; parents David and Nancy Ann (nee Heatherly) Hawkins; brothers Norris, Lloyd, Jerry, Ronnie and Donnie; sisters Mary Sue, Claudine and Lily Mae; special sister-in-law Elaine Neufeld; and special nephew John Lazor.

Katherine leaves to mourn her heartbroken family and friends: daughter Tammy (Ron); son Chris (Lesley); granddaughters and greatgrands Krista (Rob), Hunter, Oliver, Ayden, Lilly, Kayson and Taytian and Amy (Mark), Ivy; sisters and brothers-in-law Faye (Curtis) Cooper of SC, Geneva (Ronnie) Norton of TN, Cherry (Pat) Lane of TN and many nieces and nephews across the USA, ON and BC; special friend Diane Sokolowski and special nephew and nieces Peter, Cindy and Carol.

The Celebration of Granny’s Life will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Katherine may be made to your local Humane Society or Mental Health association.

Nighty, Night Granny, we love you!
