Obituary

The death of Kathleen “Kae” Linda Demond occurred at Fairview Home on Thursday, November 26, 2020 due to complications arising from the Covid-19 virus. Kae was born April 7, 1927 to the late Reuben and Annie (nee Drader) Smith and was raised on the family farm south west of Wawanesa. She attended the Chesley school two miles west of the farm when transportation to and from school was either on or behind a horse. Kae maintained a lifelong love of horses. She attended business college in Winnipeg and went on to work for the Department of National Defense for many years. While in Winnipeg, she met John and they married on November 7, 1953, and they enjoyed a loving marriage until John's passing on June 25, 2003. Together they went on two military tours in Germany from 1954-1956 and 1963-1965 and met many lifelong friends along the way. Kae and John were avid square dancers and travelled to many jamborees around the country. She spent many years involved with the women's auxiliary for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Number 3 and was honored to receive the "Meritorious Service" award, of which she was very proud. Kae attended and volunteered at Central United Church and helped out with many functions well into her 80's. Always eager to help, she was very social and enjoyed get togethers with her friends and hosted teas as often as she could. One of her favourite expressions was "heaven's sake", and now she is surely in Heaven. Kae is survived by her daughter Faye Smith; son Brian and grandson Johnathon; son Kenneth (Lisa) and grandchildren Kyler and Kelsey (Matthew); and sister Muriel Abbott. She was predeceased by her husband John; brothers Cliff, Jack and Clayton; and special friend Darcy Plante. The family would like to thank all those on the fourth floor at Fairview Home for their dedication and hard work caring for Kathleen, especially during this difficult time. The Celebration of Kae’s Life will take place when it is safe to gather together again. Donations in Kae's memory may be made to help others who may be struggling at this time through the Samaritan House Ministries Inc., 820 Pacific Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0J1.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. I lived across the back lane on Linden Blvd. We attended the Central United Church UCW for many years. Kae was a kind and generous lady hosting many get-together for the neighbours. She will be missed.

Kae and John were both members of Club Antique. Kae took on the role of secretary and was very serious about getting things recorded properly. They were both a delight to talk to, and they enjoyed the many trips to local museums with club members. My condolences to Kae’s family and friends. Carol Fisher
