Obituary for Larry John Pollock

POLLOCK: Larry J. Pollock passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 72 years of age. Born in Brandon on August 8, 1949, Larry grew up on the family farm northeast of Brandon with four brothers and one sister. Larry married Pat on November 26, 1993. Larry loved being outside. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, sporting clays, and gun shows. Larry was an easy going, hardworking, and friendly Manitoban. He loved talking with people and sharing stories. He spent many hours chatting with neighbours over coffee at the Husky, customers at the Brandon Farmers’ Market, and family over holiday dinners. Larry was an innovative farmer and agriculture was his lifelong passion. Larry took over the family farm after his father’s death in 1974. He adopted zero-till practices, expanded the farm by a half-section (the west-half), and raised pigs for years. In the late 1990s, Larry and Pat transitioned to organic farming. They grew certified organic pedigreed alfalfa seed with leaf cutter bees and developed a robust operation growing and processing spelt. Larry developed many skills building, designing, and fixing things for the farm or for fun. He claimed to be “semi-retired” and hobby farming for about 17 years, with each year being busier than the last. Larry will be lovingly remembered his wife Pat, three stepchildren: Stephen (Diana), Erin (Jamie and his son, Matthew), and Scott (Lorraine), siblings: Bill (Donna), Alberta (Ed) Neufeld, Lance (Shelby), and sisters-in-law: Carol and Margaret, and a large extended family. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Fin and Mae, brothers Dick and Bob, and sister-in-law Brenda, and his parents-in-law. Pat would like to thank neighbours Clarence and Pat Davis for their long-term support. She would also like to thank the Green family for taking over the farm and continuing the spelt legacy. Please join us for the celebration of Larry’s life on Monday, August 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Victoria Inn Brandon, 3550 Victoria Avenue. There will be a time of reflection at 2:15 p.m. followed by light refreshments and mingling.
