Obituary for Marianne McLennan
Peacefully on Saturday, January 23, 2021, Marianne Edith Blanche McLennan passed away at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home at the youthful age of 84 years.
Marianne will be lovingly remembered by her son Wayne Lloyd, two granddaughters Sara (Nick Hooper) and Carrie (Ed Turnbull); three great grandchildren Anthony McLennan, Cheyenne Turnbull and Adalynn Hooper; brother-in-law Ted (June) (John & Kerri) all of Winnipeg; sister Joan (Robert) Rieger of Bruno, Saskatchewan, Frances and Leona of Edmonton, Alberta; many nieces and nephews, and cousins; and friends in Erickson and area. She was predeceased by her loving husband Daryle (2006), her parents, two brothers, three sisters, as well as one son and two daughters shortly after birth.
Marianne was born April 5, 1937 in Winnipeg. On May 31, 1952, Marianne and Daryle were married at C.J.A.T.C. in Rivers, Manitoba, and the following year their son Wayne was born. Marianne served in the Military, alongside her husband, until 1953 as a Lt. with the Military Police. Her reason for getting out was “Dad was tired of having to salute Mom”. In 1982, Marianne and Daryle ran a rural truck stop “Marianne’s Truck-Stop” in Zhoda, Manitoba where they resided on a small farm. Dad always said Mom bought a lemon tree. In 1986, they moved to the City of Winnipeg, where they helped raise their two granddaughters. In 1992, dad bought the place in Erickson, Manitoba, where mom got her revenge by saying I may have bought a lemon tree, but dad bought the whole damn Orchard; it was their way of saying “I Love you”.
Marianne became a cub leader Bagheera (panther) while at RCAF Station Grostenquin in France, also known as 2 (Fighter) Wing. For three years upon returning to St. Jean, Quebec she took on two cub packs as ‘Akela’ pack leader where she earned her Wood Beads (highest level in Scouting). She was also noted for her notorious hat pin (the cubs would see her reach to her Beret and all cubs stopped what they were doing and went to their packs; she spoke the hidden language if you get the point).
Marianne enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking; she also enjoyed teaching her grandchildren her famous recipes. When she was not cooking or gardening, she could be found playing her favorite video game Zelda on the Nintendo.
The family would like to thank the kind staff at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home for their many years of personal care and compassion for our dear mother and grandmother.
