Obituary for Marlene June Yuen

Marlene June Yuen, age 79 years, passed away at home on Thursday, April 13, 2023. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Wally, as well as recently deceased brothers Raymond and Bruce Swiscoski.

Marlene will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Kim (Fred) and grandson Cameron; son Tyson (Karen) and granddaughter Keelei; and sister Kathy Tardiff from Victoria, BC. There are also many loved family members from coast to coast including Linda (David) Wong, Lynn Yuen, Paul (Holli) Swiscoski, Michael Tardiff, the Yuens: Betty (Gregg), Tim (Karen), Phillip (Alice), Kelly (Jocelyn) and all their children.

The love she had for her family and pets showed in her smile as her face lit up whenever she spoke of them. Marlene was always happy to see everyone, family, friends, staff and workers that helped care for her. The time travelling to Hong Kong and China to visit Wally’s village with him, Kim and Tyson was the most memorable time for her.

Marlene was born in Minnedosa and grew up in the Erickson/Clanwilliam area. She moved to Brandon at age 13 years, and met her soulmate and love of her life three years later in 1959. They began their love and had 58 wonderful years together, two great children and two amazing grandchildren.

Her career was always in customer care and food services in Brandon; starting as a waitress at the Belair, learned to be a baker at Woolworth’s, worked at the stock yards as a baker/chef, and then onto West End IGA as a baker, Shilo Mess Hall as a chef, catering services for baking, and finally retired from Brandon University as a cook/baker.

Marlene was a strong woman and had the support of all her family and friends.

Viewing will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, Brandon on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The Graveside Ceremony will follow at Brandon Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at Memories Chapel.
