Obituary for Mary Anne Gwyer

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mom and grandma Mary “Anne” Gwyer on Saturday, September 10, 2022. She was the devoted wife of Bob for 57 years, loving mom to daughter Catherine, son Bill (Karen), and proud grandma of Zachary and Zane.

Born July 14, 1944 in Winnipeg, MB to Annie and Lewis Craig she grew up on a farm in Miniota, MB. She met the love of her life Bob while working as a telephone operator for MTS in Birtle. After a short time together, they were married on April 24, 1965. They did some moving around in Northern Manitoba while Bob worked for Veterans Construction. In 1968, they settled in Brandon and became parents to Catherine followed by Bill.

Anne spent most of her working days with Woolco and then Walmart for 35 years. Not quite ready to retire she spent a few more years working with Lindenberg Seeds. Anne loved people and enjoyed hearing what everyone was up to. Being an active mom was so important to Anne and anytime she could be involved in any kind of activity she jumped all over it. She spent hours doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, camping, reading, listening to the Brandon Wheat King games on the radio and knitting toques and scarves for Christmas Cheer. Anne loved her flowers and was so proud of her peonies and roses. Her favorite holidays were visiting Catherine in Vancouver, along with trips to Disneyworld, a bus trip to Makinak Island, Oregon, Alaska and PEI.

Anne will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bob, daughter Catherine and son Bill (Karen), and grandsons Zachary (Kadee) and Zane (Justine Haywood). Survived by her sister Barbara (Geoff) Baxter and their children Tara (Bert) Cosens and Peter (Mel) Baxter, sisters-in-law Shirley (Clare) Moster and Marjorie Bates and her children Greg (Kim) Bates and Cheryl (Jay) Ewert. Her great nephews Liam and Jackson Ewert put so much joy in her heart. Anne is also survived by her longest, dearest friends Darlene and Brian Anderson.

Special thanks to the EMS crew (CJ, Mike T, Mike L, Nicole, and Shayne) for doing everything they could to save her; the team at BRHC ER on Friday morning; the amazing nurses in ICU (Nicole K, Lawna and Natalia); Dr. Nkosi; and Judith Froese Doell for providing such empathetic and compassionate care to Anne and all of us.

The graveside service for those wish to attend will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. Urn bearer will be grandson, Zane Gwyer.

In lieu of flowers, our family asks that donations be made in memory of Anne to the Brandon Regional Health Center Foundation, Critical Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3, https://www.brhcfoundation.ca/donate/.
