Obituary for Mervin Anthony Exner

Mervin Anthony Exner, long time resident of Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Born on March 26, 1954 in Melville, SK, Mervin was the third of seven children. He was raised on a farm north of the Qu’appelle Valley in Saskatchewan, attending elementary school at Mariahilf one-room school and Killaly School and then high school at Melville Comprehensive. He moved to Brandon in the early 1970s and attended Assiniboine Community College, taking basic mechanics. Mervin married Valerie Mummery in 1976 and daughter Ainslie was born in 1984. He worked at home on the farm, followed by Simplot and then at Burns for 15 years until it closed. Mervin then did odd jobs such as yard care and snow removal before a short time at Behlen, he then provided door-to-door milk service through Exner Distributing from about 1995 to 2001, and then worked at Home Hardware in hunting, fishing and sporting goods sales, until he retired in 2013. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, was a war history buff, loved classic rock and classic cars, owning several over the years. Mervin will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Ainslie and grandson Leven; mother Jen Exner; siblings Sharon McClean, Randy Exner, Carol Adams and Kevin Exner. He was predeceased by his father Edward, older brother Barry Exner and younger sister Linda Carlson. The private Celebration of Mervin’s Life will take place at a later date.
