Obituary for Michael James Parkolub

PARKOLUB: Michael James, age 60 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

Michael was born, raised, and educated in the city of Brandon. After graduating from Brandon University, Michael commenced his career with the City of Brandon. He remained employed by the city until his declining health prevented him from continuing further. Special thanks to the City of Brandon for accommodating his diminishing capabilities until it was no longer safe for him to continue employment.

Mike was happiest at home and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his extreme dedication to his parents and especially the support he provided during their declining health and hospitalization.

Mike enjoyed reading and absorbing information. In the pre-computer era he was an amazing resource for dates, events, and an incredible array of sports statistics. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals, as well as cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was an avid mountain biker while he was physically able to do so. Spending time with family at Clear Lake or Sandy Lake was also something he loved to do.

Thank you to the staff at the personal care home in Brandon for the five years of exceptional and dedicated care given to Mike. Also many thanks to Mike’s cousins for always helping when need arose.

Mike was predeceased by his parents John and Margaret Parkolub. He is survived by his brother Peter (Bozenna). He will be greatly missed, but the long and painful period of suffering is over, and we are all thankful for that.

A private family graveside service will take place at Brandon Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in memory of Michael may be made to the Huntington’s Society of Canada, #801, 20 Erb Street West, Waterloo, ON N2L 1T2.
