Obituary for Phyllis May Walker

Phyllis May Walker (nee Sneesby), of Angus, ON, passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, ON on Monday, June 27, 2022 in her 88th year.

Dear mother of Ronald (Holly), Gordon, Valerie (Colin) and Cheryle (Neil); cherished grandmother of Michelle, Carleigh, Regan, Elizabeth and Isabel; and great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren; loved sister of Grace and brother Gerald (Jackie), and sister-in-law of Jean and Elma and brother-in-law Hans; sadly missed by her dear friend Janet Tobio. Phyllis will also be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, her many friends and our community. Predeceased by her sisters Thelma, Barbara and Doris and brothers Bruce, Charles, Arthur, Argyle and Angus.

Phyllis was born in Winchester District, Manitoba and received her education at Arden and Woodside Schools. She went to St. Boniface School of Nursing in Manitoba and St. Joseph Hospital in London, ON, where she received her operating room training. Phyllis was a proud veteran in the Canadian Armed Forces, initially joining the 18 Medical Co. of the Canadian Forces in Winnipeg and was then sent to Toronto. She served in CFB Petawawa, CFB Kingston, St. Jean, PQ, Lahar Germany and Ismailia, Egypt, with several tours at the Medical School in CFB Borden, both in nursing and teaching.

Phyllis was a member of the Presbyterian Church, where she served on the church board and search committee. She served for 10 years as chair of the Board of Managers on the Barrie Humane Society and served as secretary/treasurer for the Board of Directors for the Angus Mobile Trailer Park. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 33 years and a member of the St. John Ambulance for 37 years, having reached the rank of Commander of the Order of St. John Ambulance of Jerusalem. Phyllis was very active in the community teaching various Fire Departments, Girl Guides/Boys and Scouts.

The funeral service was held in Angus, ON on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Winnipeg, MB on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
