Obituary for Regis "Reg" Joseph Lucien Chartier
Regis Chartier passed away peacefully at home in Brandon, Manitoba on Monday, March 6, 2023.
Regis, the fourth son in a family of eleven siblings and one of eight brothers, was born to Albert and Jeanne D’arc Chartier in Birtle, MB on June 17, 1951. In his youth, Reg enjoyed all aspects of the family farm in St. Lazare, MB, and he later relocated to Brandon to work as a labourer.
Reg loved driving his little black Datsun truck and immersed himself in knowing the mechanics of a vehicle. This became a lifelong hobby. The family has many heartfelt memories of Reg. Dolores expresses fondest memories of his musical talent. We always enjoyed when he played guitar and sang while little sister Rosemarie and Dolores would dance and sing along. He also took pride in baking everyone's favourite walnut striped cake along with sister Maria who assisted.
Arthur recalls as if it was yesterday, that he and brother Regis were bringing the cows from the pasture for milking. Regis would harness the horse after chores. He received a pinto pony for his birthday. We could both ride through the fields pretending to be cowboys. We were playing cowboys using willow bows. Unfortunately, when Reg was the victim of a blunt arrow; he threw his bow in the alley and went home. Reg was always cognizant of his parent's needs, especially in their senior years. His love and kindness will always be in our hearts.
Reg was admitted to the BRHC with respiratory and cardiac issues in August 2022. The family deeply appreciates the devotion of the doctors, nurses and staff for the care he received. Upon discharge, he was grateful to return home under the care of his longtime best friend Brenda, who remained a faithful caregiver during his last stages of illness.
Reg enjoyed receiving visits from family, and will be lovingly remembered by brothers Arthur, Camille (Wendy), Armand, Boniface and Laurier; sisters Maria (Don), Dolores (Marcel) and Rosemarie (Ron); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and good friend Huguette (Garry) and son Patrick
Regis was predeceased by his parents Albert and Jeanne D'arc Chartier; and brothers Alphonse and Fabien Chartier.
A private Celebration of Reg’s Life will take place at Memories Chapel.
