Obituary for Rose Maryniuk

It is with such sadness that we, the family of Rose Maryniuk, announce her passing on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon, MB with family present to comfort her. Baba was born February 15, 1928 in Olha, Manitoba to Ted and Nellie Twerdochlib. She had two brothers and two sisters and is the last of her generation to go “home”. Baba attended school in Olha and was a very good student. She learned to read and write in English and Ukrainian; a skill she kept all her life. As a young mom she farmed. She fed pigs, raised chickens, geese and ducks, and grew and “put up” a huge garden. She always worked very hard. Baba was a fabulous cook and there was always lots of food on the table. She left Rossburn after 39 years and moved to Brandon to start a new life. In Brandon she became a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League. Many hours were spent making perogies and cabbage rolls, a task she truly loved doing. She lived in Hobbs Manor for close to twenty years. Baba enjoyed playing shuffleboard, cards, having coffee and visiting. She truly treasured each of her granddaughters. As they grew into young adults, she enjoyed hearing about their adventures. She was so proud to be a great grandmother and was always called Baba by both grands and greats. Her passion for “doing” puzzles will long be remembered by everyone at Dinsdale PCH. Many staff and families would happily help her find pieces, and she was always happy for the help. In Dinsdale she also enjoyed playing bingo and saved the chips she won for her great grandchildren and the chocolate bars for Karen and Henry. Baba will be missed by her family, as well as her Dinsdale family. Baba was predeceased by her son Wayne and is survived by son Henry (Karen) Maryniuk, granddaughters Sandi (Kris) Prior, Rebecca (Geoff) Brewster and Jen (Rob) Campbell, great grandchildren Chloe Prior, Owen and Scotia Brester, and Morgan and Conner Campbell; daughter Jan (Michael) Trinder and granddaughters Krista Trinder (Alan Duffy) and Kari (Brad) Hume. The Maryniuk family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Dinsdale PCH. Your loving care of Baba will be long remembered; and a special thank you for your kindness shown toward our family in the last two weeks. Prayers will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, Brandon on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at Memories Chapel on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Baba was passionate about being a Ukrainian Canadian. Donations in memory of Baba may be made to the Ukrainian Canadian Association Tryzub by estransfer to tryzubukraine@gmail.com to assist the Ukrainian people affected by this war.
