Obituary for Ruth McLean

It is with very heavy hearts that the family announce that Florence “Ruth” McLean passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon, Manitoba.

Born April 2, 1937, Ruth was a teacher for several years, teaching at Bloomsbury, Alexander, Elgin and Wawanesa, Manitoba. She was a dutiful, hands-on farmer’s wife; helping wherever was necessary – driving machinery, trucks, loading/unloading grain, helping with the cattle, maintaining a beautiful farmyard and garden on their farm in Nesbitt, Manitoba. Ruth was also an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

Ruth was happily married to her beloved husband, Donald McLean, for 59 years. They were married in Wawanesa United Church on August 3, 1963. When they retired to Brandon, they attended services at Knox United Church. Ruth and Donnie did everything together. They were soulmates!

Ruth was a member of many organizations as Ruth and Donnie volunteered extensively in Brandon and Nesbitt.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Donnie McLean, of Valleyview Care Centre; sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Glenn Dudding of Lloydminster, Alberta; nephew Guy Dudding of Lloydminster, Alberta and his family, Jenna (Jesse) Lawes and son, Westin of Wainwright, Alberta and Josh (Becky) Dudding and children, Ava and Jackson of Lloydminster Alberta; nephew Gavyn (Nicole) Dudding and their sons, Kadyn and Tyler of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan; and numerous cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Edward “Buster” and Eva (nee Smith) Rome.

The Celebration of Ruth’s Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Burial took place preceding the service at the Brandon Cemetery.

The family wish to thank the following: Rev. Craig Miller from Knox United Church for his heart-warming service; Muriel and Guy for their kind words of remembrance of Ruth; Memories Chapel for their care and compassion at our time of sorrow; the staff at Valleyview Care Center on the first floor for their tender care during Ruth’s short stay; Ken and Colleen Barclay for all the time, care and endless help they gave to Ruth; pallbearers Ken Barclay, Ron Krushel, Tom McLean, Murray Rankin, Gavyn and Guy Dudding.

Thank you to all who were in attendance and everyone for your beautiful cards, donations to charities, flowers, phone calls, texts and food brought to the house. Donnie and the Dudding’s are very grateful to everyone. Concern was shown for Ruth from across Canada and Australia.

“So when you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds
Miss me, but let me go”
