Obituary for Steve Mosiondz

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Steve Mosiondz on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 91 years.

Steve was born to Alec and Lena Mosiondz near Canora, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Birch River, Manitoba in 1945, and settled in the Drury School District. Steve was second in a family of ten, and as a young man would work the winter months in northern Manitoba and Ontario, in mining or construction, returning to farm in the summer. He loved playing baseball and played for the Birch River Beavers.

Steve married Ardith Antichow in 1956, and they lived in Birch River. Steve would commute to the farm, which was close. Two sons and a daughter were born in Birch River. Then, in 1964, land was purchased that included a house, so the family moved to the farm, and shortly after a third son was born. During this time, Steve continued to grain farm while also raising black angus cattle. He was dedicated to both, but was especially fond of his cattle. After some health issues he was forced to give up his herd, but he continued to grain farm until retirement. In the winter months, Steve also enjoyed curling and really enjoyed bonspiels with his friends.

After retiring, a pleasant winter was spent in Osoyoos, BC, then a move was made to Winnipeg, where a completely different lifestyle was enjoyed. In 2006, the family returned to the valley and settled in Swan River. Many summers were spent camping at Steeprock Lake. Steve enjoyed fishing off the pontoon boat, riding his quad on the trails, and socializing with friends and family around the campfire. In 2017, it was decided to move to Brandon, where travelling time for medical attention would be easier. In 2020, due to failing health and mobility, Steve moved to a personal care facility.

Steve leaves to mourn his wife, Ardith; sons Greg (Judy), Kyle (Wendy) and Darcy; daughter Sharleen; four grandchildren Logan, Lindsay, Skyler, and Wyatt; great grandchildren Van and Vea Kovatch; brother Ben (Ann); sisters Sonya Wiebe, Gloria Natrasony, and Bernadette (Wayne) Buchberger; and sister-in-law Georgina Mosiondz. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Metro, Bill, Lawrence, Terry, sister Sylvia Sobie, sister-in-law Pat, and brothers-in-law Harvey Wiebe and Tom Sobie.

His family was always first and foremost, and he enjoyed the good times of family gatherings around a bountiful table. Steve’s philosophy was that everything comes from hard work, and he was the ultimate example of that.

A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held at a later date.

Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
