Obituary for Wilfred Arthur James "Duffy" Peters

Wilfred Arthur James “Duffy” Peters was born July 26, 1947 in Brandon to Art and Jean Peters. The family moved around Manitoba during his childhood as his father was a section man for CNR. Duffy left school in grade 10 and moved to Brandon, where he worked many retail jobs until returning to school at Assiniboine Community College. After receiving his Power Engineering License, Duffy began his career as a custodian for Brandon School Division. In 1966, while at a Park Community Centre teen dance, he met a young girl by the name of Bonnie Weare and they married in June 1970. Their son Kim was born in February 1972 and Cory came along in June 1973. Duffy loved to dance, and if at a social, you could find Duff and Bonnie on the dance floor most of the night. When he was younger, Duffy played fastball, enjoyed fishing and bowled 10-pin for many years. In the summer, he loved to golf, spending lots of time at Glen Lea Golf Course. He belonged to the Monday Night Men’s League with his best bud Ron as his partner. Sunday mornings found Duff, Ron and a group of friends out there for a round of golf and breakfast afterwards. As his health declined, he had to give this up, but his nephew Rick and Ron would occasionally take him out, even if was only for a few holes. You will never know how much that meant to him – thank you. Duffy is survived by his wife Bonnie; sons Kim (Tanya) and Cory; grandchildren Leighton (Candace), Adanna and Sienna; great granddaughter Odette; brother Ken (Janet); sister Judy; nephews Rick, Wilf, Jason and Clayton; nieces Shannon, Marlene and Colby; numerous cousins; and special fur babies Spike and Chloe. He was predeceased by his parents Art and Jean Peters, in-laws Fred and Bettye Weare and sister Marion at birth. The Celebration of Duffy’s Life will take place at the Brandon Cemetery on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Duffy may be made to Diabetes Canada, #401, 1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6.
