Obituary for William Charles Heron

Bill, age 83 years, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 peacefully at home. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Darlene, his children Mark (Tannis) and Penny (Brent), his grandchildren, Zack, Gill, Logan (Leila), Zena (Aaron Todd) Mitchell, Chase and Ellinna, his great grandchildren, Dominic, Odin and Skyler, his siblings Al (Claire), Don and Wanda (Richard) and along with his many Nieces and Nephews.

Bill was born in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, where he grew up on a farm. Bill then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1957. From there he trained at the Brandon Mental Health Centre, as a LPN and met the love of his life Darlene. Bill and Darlene made their home in Brandon where Bill began his career as a letter carrier where he retired from 28 years later. Bill and Darlene married in 1964 and had two children Penny and Mark. He took such pride in his family, and was always involved in his children’s activities, he took on being the Scoutmaster to be with Mark and was always at every function that Penny was involved in. As a Letter Carrier he always took the route that the school was on so he could check up on his kids! Bill was always there for his friends and community lending a helping hand and organizing events through the church and the community.

After retirement Bill got back into farming helping Mark with his ginseng crops and helping at harvest time for his friends; he enjoyed every minute of this. Bill was always there to help everyone and was involved with the Sokol Hall making perogies and cabbage rolls or anything that needed to be done. He always had a woodworking project on the go and after moving to Winnipeg he joined the Menshed where he became very involved with everything. He loved being at the condo, from changing light bulbs to being the taxi driver for anyone who needed a ride. Although somewhat computer challenged, Bill loved sending and receiving emails and messages with family and friends. He loved hearing from his many nieces and nephews and keeping up with all their lives. He always had a smile reading these messages to Darlene and replying to them.

Bill will be fondly remembered and he will be missed by so many.

The family will have a graveside service at the Brandon Municipal Cemetery on Saturday June 4th, at 11:30 am(CT). All are welcome to attend. Following the service, there will be a gathering at the Sokol Hall, 33 - 11th Street North to celebrate and remember Bill’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill’s honor may be made to the charity of your choice or Woodhaven Men's Shed.
