VAN MULLIGEN: Our hearts are breaking but we are peaceful at the same time. Lammigje “Lammy” van Mulligen of Brandon, beloved wife of Jan “John” van Mulligen, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 93 years. Along with her husband of 70 years, Lammy leaves to cherish her memory her children: Lou (Marlene) Van Mulligen, John (Loree) Van Mulligen, Bruce (Jan) van Mulligen, Irene (John) Vannus, Gordon (Kris) Van Mulligen, Susan (Murray) Duncalfe, and Karen (Wendel) Nelson; 19 grandchildren: Jason, Heather, Laura, Lisa, Matthew, Jessica, Tyler, Calvin, Denny, Dustin, Dallas, Denver, Kiefer, Kyle, Juliana, Marcie, Shelby, Cody and Niki; and 24 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Hennie Fredriks. Lammy (nee DeRoo) was born on January 23, 1927 and raised on a small farm near Koekange, Drenthe, the Netherlands. She lived her teen years during the five-year occupation of the Netherlands during WWII. She was formally trained and became a skilled seamstress. She married the love of her life on January 19, 1951 after John’s return from 3 years of military service with the Dutch army in Indonesia. Together they immigrated to Canada and built a wonderful life in Brandon. She completely dedicated her life to her growing family. Her seven children attest to her love, her wisdom and guidance, her faith and testimony in our lives, and her endless efforts to make us each feel special. Guided by her extraordinary example of selfless service, we will continue to pay her love forward to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will always be in our hearts. Lammy and John established “John’s Greenhouse” on Brandon’s North Hill where she loved to work with the plants and care for their many loyal customers. In retirement, Lammy loved to travel with John to the Netherlands and throughout Canada and the USA. The family would like to thank Dr. Rist and the staff at Fairview Personal Care Home for their aid and support during Mom’s final years. A private funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel with Rev. Dr. Glenn Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Sadly, due to current COVID-19 restrictions the service must be by invitation only. Donations in memory of Lammy may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B, 457 – 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2.
